The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for International Migration invites NGOs, civil society organizations, diaspora organizations, migrant organizations, academic institutions and private sectors entities, not in consultative status with ECOSOC, to apply for special accreditation to participate in the Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, which will be held in Morocco on 10 and 11 December 2018.

Registration for special accreditation is open until March 26, 2018 (here). Please note that all non-governmental organizations not in consultative status with ECOSOC should apply for accreditation, also those who received special accreditation to the GCM process. If your NGO is in consultative status with ECOSOC, you do not need to apply for special accreditation through this process.

Background

The UN General Assembly adopted on September 19, 2016 the New-York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, which launched international negotiations for the adoption of a Global Compact on Migration and a Global Compact on Refugees. After a consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, States are currently negotiating, from a zero-draft released on 5 February 2018, the final text to be adopted in Morocco on 10-11 December 2018.

Although the development of the GCM is a Member State-led process, IOM has a prominent role in jointly servicing the negotiations and providing technical and policy expertise. IOM is working very closely with the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration, the President of the General Assembly, and the Co-Facilitators, on the GCM.
