World leaders have come together on September 19th, 2016 to adopt the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, expressing their political will to safeguard rights of refugees and migrants and share responsibility for large-scale refugee movements. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon acknowledges this event as a “breakthrough in our collective efforts to address the challenges of human mobility.”

Among other things, he congratulates member states on declaring their intention to incorporate refugees and migrants in national development planning. JMDI participated actively in these 10th European Development Days (EDD) which took place in Brussels from 15th to 16th June. Jointly with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), JMDI hosted on June 16th from 9:15 to 10:30, a Lab session entitled: “Migration and Cities – Exploring the key role of cities in implementing the migration related targets of the SDGs”. JMDI was also present at the UN stand to actively promote the SDGs more generally.
