The Migration Working Group (MWG) of the European University Institute (EUI) gathered for several years faculties, fellows and researchers working on projects related to migration and the integration of migrants. Migration being a multidisciplinary research field, various disciplines are represented in the MWG: sociology political science social geography, anthropology, history, economics, law, demography, etc. The MWG is directed by Andrew Geddes and Anna Triandafyllidou from the EUI.

Gathering every last Tuesday of each month from 14:00 to 17:30, this month’s MWG will focus on Migration and Cities. The lunch seminar on migration and cities will be given by Tiziana Caponio (University of Turin) and Tomás Jiménez (Stanford University). It will be followed by four presentations by EUI researchers:

  1. Carolin Schmitz: Welcoming the New Healer: Early Modern Medical Practitioners and Their Processes of Integration into Foreign Communities
  2. Vivian Gerrand: Building Resilience to Violent Extremism via Image-Making: a Comparative Case Study of Somalis in Italy and the UK

  4. Sergio Lo Iacono: The Perks and The Costs of Living in a Social Bubble. How Homogeneous Ego-Networks Affect Generalized Trust
