\n Agriculture continues to rem ain an economic strength of many African economies accounting for a growin g share of workers. Many migrants working in the agricultural sector face challenging conditions\, with limited or no access to core services and ge nerally poor access to social protection. \n\nMoreover\, youth are increasingly leaving rural areas and migrating to urban areas to search f or greater economic and social opportunities. An inclusive approach to st rengthening rural transformation can especially help to ensure that migran ts and their families are not left behind. \n | \n

\n In the run-up to the Euro pean Union - African Union summit\, this event is being organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Inte rnational Organization for Migration (IOM) as part of the first edition o f the Africa-Europe Week of Partnerships. \n\nThe event will raise a wareness on the need for integrated solutions and approaches to rural deve lopment and migration. By providing concrete examples of the current situa tion and what can be done\, the participants will leave the event with a n improved understanding of how to integrate migration in policy and progr amming\, also inspired by some efforts that are already well advanced in c ountries such as Kenya. \n | \n
