Position Title: Intern - Communications and Website Management
Duty Station: Home based
Classification: Intern, Grade Other
Type of Appointment: Internship, six months with possibility of extension
Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible
Closing Date: 12 February 2022

Context:

Migration is a core, cross-cutting dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Agenda. Mobile populations, whether internal, cross-border or displaced are a key target group for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Migration, including displacement, also has an impact on the achievement of the SDGs.

IOM is currently working to ensure the organization is equipped with the necessary planning tools and capacities to contribute to positive development outcomes and contribute to the achievement of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to foster strong partnerships across the UN Development System and beyond to harness the expertise and capabilities of relevant actors on migration and sustainable development.

One of these essential knowledge platforms is the newly relaunched M4D Net, the global hub on migration and sustainable development, which brings together practitioners and policymakers from around the world to exchange ideas, develop skills and consolidate partnerships. The M4D Net aims to harness the development potential of migration and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Furthermore, IOM is implementing a Global Programme on Making Migration Work for Development (Phase III) funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and jointly implemented by IOM and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The main objective of the Programme is to enable the target governments to better govern migration to increase the human development outcomes and mitigate the risks for migrants, their families and communities at origin and destination. The Programme has a global focus with direct country level implementation in Ecuador, Morocco, Nepal, Serbia, Senegal and Tunisia and in association with Bangladesh, Jamaica, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and the Philippines.

The intern will assist the Migration and Sustainable Development Unit in the implementation of internal and external public information, communications and awareness-raising activities, including developing proposals and final products for communication materials and social media messaging on IOM’s efforts to support the governments in integrating migration into development policy planning, supporting inclusion of migration issues into national reporting on the achievements of the SDGs, promoting the GCM implementation as well as raising awareness on migration and development issues among policy developers and practitioners across the globe. This will be done in alignment with global frameworks such as the Global Compact on Migration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and subsequently fed into The M4D Net online platform on Migration and Development as well as M4D Net Facebook and Twitter pages.
