Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM)
Related Sustainable Development Goals and Global Compact for Migration Objectives
The Global Compact is the first inter-governmental agreement prepared under the auspices of the UN that covers all aspects of international migration. Unbinding document that respects states' sovereign right to decide who enters and stays on their territory. A significant opportunity to improve migration governance, address current migration challenges, and strengthen migrant and migration contributions to sustainable development. The Global Compact aligns with target 10.7 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which calls for international cooperation to promote safe, orderly, and regular migration. The Global Compact will: (i) Encourage international co-operation on migration governance; (ii) Assist States in formulating policies to address some of the most pressing issues surrounding international migration; (iii) Allow states to implement based on their own migration realities and capacities.
