Summary

As part of the IOM-UNDP Global Programme on Making Migration Work for Sustainable Development, this project supports entrepreneurs to access existing job search vulnerable community members with psycho-social support, assistance schemes, employment assistance programmes or to become self-employed, with a particular focus on women and youth. The Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma Region is one of the Moroccan regions where most migrants reside. The situation of informal workers is particularly critical, where informal employment is estimated at almost 80% of the workforce, thus exposing these migrant workers to increased risks of exploitation, including forced labour and human trafficking. The number of migrants entering the job market is limited due to the lack of information sharing with potential employers and their lack of experience and familiarity in hiring migrant workers.

Key objective

The overall objective of this project is to contribute to the economic integration and the promotion of entrepreneurial spirit of young community members, including regularized migrants, through the support for individual or collective business start-ups, skills development and integration into the job market in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region.

Main activities

  • Reinforcement of the counselling and orientation services for young entrepreneurs in the TTH region through the Business Incubation desk (HUB) specifically dedicated to community members, including migrants.
  • Launch of the calls for interest aimed at identifying individual and collective entrepreneurial projects
  • Provision of individual and collective life skills orientation sessions
  • Support and monitoring of young entrepreneurs to access the self-entrepreneur status
  • Financial and technical support and monitoring of individual and collective social micro-enterprises
  • Development of job placement schemes and financial support to apprenticeships and internship initiatives
  • Support for the organization of the annual ES.Maroc.org "Salon for Employment and Social Entrepreneurship”

Beneficiaries

  • At least 1500 community members will receive counselling and orientation services through the Business Incubation desk in Tangier (both migrants and local population, at least 55% of them are women)
  • At least 5 new collective start-ups and 40 new individual start-ups
