Summary
As part of the IOM-UNDP Global Programme on Making Migration Work for Sustainable Development, this project supports vulnerable community members with psycho-social support, with a particular focus on women and children. Migrants in Morocco often face high barriers to health care access due to legal barriers and unfamiliarity with the city, especially for those transiting through dangerous routes. This programme establishes “Cellules d’écoute” units for psycho-social support in local health centres and organizes workshops on setting up referral systems.
Key objective
Improve, strengthen and share the psycho-social approach in health care assistance of vulnerable population, especially women and children victims of violence.
Main activities
- Establishing two counselling units in health centers in Berkane and Oujda to provide psycho-social support for community members in vulnerable situations;
- Organizing two workshops on setting up a referral and counter-referral system between the public institutions and CSO working with migrants and vulnerable populations;
- Conducting an evaluation and capitalization of the project approach in the provision of psycho-social care of community members in great vulnerability;
- Organizing results dissemination workshops to raise awareness and discuss key success factors for replicability of the model of the psychosocial approach in other regions.
Beneficiaries
At least 650 vulnerable community members (both migrants and local population, especially women (60%) and children victims of violence), and at least 18 key stakeholders from target public national and regional structures within the Ministry of Health, the Entraide Nationale and the Ministry of Justice.
