Carlos joined IOM as an intern in December 2022. He provides specific support to the Migration and Sustainable Development Unit's engagement with the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and the UN Migration Network. Specifically, it supports capacity building of UN Country Teams and provides technical assistance for the successful coordination of the Network's core working group "Supporting Member States and the UN in the Implementation of the GCM".

Previous experience

Carlos Souto holds a Master's degree in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex and a Bachelor's degree in International Studies from the University Carlos III of Madrid. Prior to joining IOM, he worked at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He volunteered for two years at the local level with Amnesty International Spain and contributed to the planning and development of the 25th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC held in Madrid.
