Children Uprooted in a Changing Climate - Turning challenges into opportunities with and for young people on the move
The climate crisis is a child rights crisis. Already, millions of children around the world are affected by climate mobility, with over 9.8 million weather-related internal displacements of children in 2020. Every displacement risks the realisation of children`s rights.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UNMGY) are jointly organizing this virtual event that will serve as the launch of a new briefing highlighting the impacts and opportunities for children and young people affected by climate mobility.
The virtual event will serve as the launch of a new briefing exploring the challenges and opportunities for young people uprooted by climate change.
Strategically situated the week before COP26 - a critical moment for climate change - the event will seek to draw attention to this vital issue, calling for action to protect, uphold, and advance the rights of children uprooted in a changing climate.
