Résumé

The Equalcity Project supports local authorities in fostering inclusion and protection of migrants who are at risk, or who have survived sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). The objective of the project is to build capacity of local frontline services through the development of practical training tools and awareness-raising material on SGBV. Equalcity is piloted in 4 partner cities: Brussels, Luxembourg, Rome and Gothenburg, with each partner city focusing on one topic and developing one specific toolbox.

This project is funded by the European Union's Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014 - 2020).

Objectif clé

This project aims to:

  1. Build capacity of cities and local governments to better reach migrant communities & to improve identification, referral, protection and recovery of survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) within these communities.
  2. Empower migrants and frontline services by raising awareness on SGBV and migrants’ rights.

Principales activités

The project worked with 4 municipalities in Europe, each of whom developed a toolkit on a particular topic:

  1. LGBTQI+ Migrants
  2. Migrant Women and Girls
  3. Unaccomapnied Migrant Children
  4. Migrant Families

To ensure transparency and practicability, each toolbox was reviewed by a panel of 34 experts crossing diverse professional backgrounds.

Adding to this, the project organized thematic workshops, gathering the 66 trainee cities and organizations who have signed up to receive the tools around the table to have open and interactive dicussions with Equalcity’s partners on the development and application of the toolbox.

At the same time, the project raised awareness and worked with frontline services in these European cities by conducting training and capacity building activities.

Principaux succès ou facteurs innovants, bonnes pratiques et enseignements tirés (si disponibles)
