Country Results Fiches M4SD Programme: Putting Policy into Practice to Harness Migration’s Potential
Related Sustainable Development Goals and Global Compact for Migration Objectives
It is by now well-acknowledged that migration can be a positive force for communities and people, contributing to eradicating poverty, increasing equality, boosting economies and strengthening knowledge and skills. Yet, it has been difficult to show exactly how this relationship works in practice, and to connect policies, projects and initiatives that foster well-managed migration to the tangible results this has for people, towns and countries.
The IOM-UNDP Global Programme on Making Migration Work for Sustainable Development is the third and final phase of a global initiative supporting more than 11 countries for over a decade. This programme worked at both the policy and the practical, local level to "put policies into practice" and make a real and measurable impact in communities. To visualize and showcase how each of the 11 countries realized this methodology over several years, and to understand the results this has had on the communities that have been served, each country developed a "results fiche" detailing their successes. Each country's results are also tagged to specific SDGs, to show how well-managed migration can lead to overall national sustainable development and the achievement of our Global Goals.
Results fiches are accompanied by case studies which show more in-depth "best practices", human stories and tips for practitioners and programmers.
Read each country's results below.
*Note: Fiches are not exhaustive of all results on human mobility across all years, but aim to highlight the most crucial results. Several fiches include results from other government, UN or civil society initiatives that have contributed to success for migrants and communities. Some fiches are available in multiple languages.
